JERUSALEM — Thousands of residents, families and visitors filled the streets and scenic areas of Jerusalem on Monday for the annual Jerusalem March held during the Sukkot holiday.
Participants followed several routes through Jerusalem, passing urban nature sites, scenic overlooks and historic landscapes before arriving at Sacher Park.
The march concluded with a large family celebration featuring live musical performances, entertainment for children and adults, creative workshops and other holiday activities.
Over the years, the Jerusalem March has become one of the city's prominent Sukkot traditions, bringing together thousands of people of different ages during the biblical festival.
Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion welcomed the turnout and described the march as a celebration of Jerusalem and the Sukkot holiday.
Sukkot is one of the biblical appointed times described in Leviticus 23. The feast commemorates the period when the Israelites lived in temporary shelters after leaving Egypt and continues to be observed throughout Israel today.
The annual march offers a present-day look at how Jerusalem comes alive during Sukkot, as families and visitors gather throughout the city during one of the most significant festivals on the biblical calendar.
