GLOBAL — Bible translation efforts reached another milestone in 2026, with the complete Bible now available in 807 languages spoken by approximately 6.2 billion people worldwide.
The figures highlighted in September show continued progress in making Scripture available to people in the languages they understand best. During the previous year, 28 complete Bible translations and 70 New Testaments were launched, contributing to nearly 100 significant Scripture translation milestones.
Translation work is currently underway in 4,414 languages around the world. At the same time, the number of languages still considered in need of translation work has continued to decline.
Five years ago, nearly 1,900 languages were identified as still needing Bible translation work to begin. The latest figures reported that number had fallen to 543 languages.
Despite the progress, the work is not finished. About 20 percent of the world's population still does not have access to the complete Bible in their first language, highlighting the continuing efforts of translators, churches and Christian organizations around the world.
For Whole Bible believers, the milestone highlights the worldwide effort to make the complete Scriptures available to people in the languages they understand best, allowing more communities to read and study the Word of God for themselves.
